lovely items of the week

one of my favorite past-times is searching etsy to find great items. the rise of do-it-yourself crafts is inspiring and personal. i'm reading handmade nation by faythe levine and cortney heimerl and it talks about the increase in handmade items, artists following their dreamers, and how they made it happen. it was interesting to read a little history about crafting. in the 60s and 70s, crafting was for the extreme hippys. in the 80s and 90s, it moved to high-end galleries and museums. now, it is finally joining the two ends of the spectrum and becoming main-stream. i'm so happy to be a part of the crafting community and encouraging local production of goods. hopefully this surge of handmade goods and people taking pride in their work will make everyone rethink corporate culture and consumerism. here are a few lovely items that i found on etsy today. my etsy store, odds and ends made by jessa, will be open in a few weeks. check back soon!
