the theme of maliya and chris' wedding reception was a picnic! a couple weeks after the wedding in the bahamas, we prepared for the picnic reception to celebrate with everyone in our hometown of carlisle, pennsylvania. here are some of the details!
the couple met in kindergarten so i thought it was fitting to show their story through the invitation for the reception. the heart with their initials was to represent their young love...
the pocketfold opened to show a tree carved with the same initial heart
to show how much they've grown up and grown together.
the picnic at the bottom of the invite shows the theme for the reception.
a fun, casual font was chosen to reflect the mood of the celebration.
"we need another tablecloth!"
last minute preparations by my mom and brian
a few months before the big day, we went shopping on fabric row in philly in search of the tablecloth fabric. we found 3 different patterns...
a small blue gingham, a large blue gingham, and a blue paisley...
my mom made all 16 tablecloths, tia helped :)
guest favors with ant tags
filled with sugar cookies frosted with blue icing... yum!
table number ants made out of wire, i sculpted 16 of them!
we put together baskets of beautiful, pink garden roses
we also created all of the bridal bouquets out of the same delightful blooms. i love how full they are (prettier than peonies, maliya)!
maliya and chris love to do crossword puzzles and i felt that many guests didn't know that the couple had so much history, dating in kindergarten and falling back in love in college. i thought it would be great to put the two concepts together creating a crossword puzzle out of the words in the "story of maliya and chris." the typographic story went through their whole relationship and on the back was the crossword puzzle.
maliya provided a pencil to fill the puzzle in.
the puzzles were placed at each guest's seat.
half the picnic tables had a basket of roses...
and the other tables had glowing lanterns
that my sister collected for months...
the couple renewed their vows in front of everyone,
the running joke was that it must have been a rough two weeks!
the first "second" dance as a couple
maliya put together ribbons to create a backdrop for the "photo booth"
she provided disposable cameras for everyone to take their picture with funny masks and mustaches, then she had a collection of crazy pictures as her guest book... a guest book filled with great memories :)
family dancing!
the blue sash that tia and i are wearing
was a gift from maliya to ask us to be her maids of honor
(which my mom sewed for all of the bridemaids)
and the groomsmen were given different blue ties
the couple wanted a cupcake cake and i think the guests loved them...
or we might have left half of them in a neighbors basement fridge :)
overall, it was a great reception!
